Project Overview: Launching a new craft beer brand into a saturated market requires more than just a good product, it requires a compelling narrative. ¿Scenario? Brewing Co. approached me to build the digital home for their debut release, a 1% Low Alcohol Hazy IPA named Illuminati.
Because the beer was still in production, they couldn’t launch a traditional storefront yet. They needed a Phase 1 “Teaser” site, a dedicated blog and landing page designed to lean into their conspiracy-theory branding, build a mailing list, and establish their SEO footprint.
The Challenge: A common pitfall with a phased launch is building a temporary teaser site, only to scrap the entire thing and start from scratch when it’s time to add e-commerce. That duplicate effort is highly inefficient. The true challenge was to build a Phase 1 site that perfectly captured the mysterious, edgy vibe of the brand, while secretly acting as the foundational architecture for a Phase 2 retail rollout.
The Solution: I engineered the site using a high-performance, flat-file architecture, keeping both the immediate marketing goals and the future retail goals in mind.
Thematic UI/UX Design: To match the “Illuminati” branding, we moved away from the standard, sterile corporate brewery look. The design utilises deep, moody colour palettes, stark typography, and a layout that feels slightly classified and mysterious, instantly hooking the user into the brand’s narrative.
High-Speed Content Engine: The site is currently driven by a frictionless blog engine. Because it doesn’t rely on heavy database queries, the articles load instantly. This is crucial for early-stage SEO, allowing ¿Scenario? to start ranking for their targeted keywords long before the beer is even bottled.
Phase 2 E-commerce Readiness: Here is where the real architecture shines. The site was built modularly. When ¿Scenario? is ready to sell, we don’t have to rebuild the site or force them onto a generic Shopify template. Instead, we will use the Shopify Storefront API to inject e-commerce capabilities directly into this existing, fast-loading architecture (a “Headless” commerce approach).
The Result: ¿Scenario? Brewing Co. now has a striking, high-performance digital asset that actively builds their cult following and captures leads. More importantly, they have absolute peace of mind knowing that when production finishes, their website is already primed and engineered to flip the switch into a revenue-generating retail machine.
